Wine Country Lodging
Grand River Valley tastings by day, a Lake Erie beach by evening
Ten Minutes from the Grand River Valley
The Grand River Valley is Ohio's wine country, with more than 30 wineries, and its tasting rooms start about 10 minutes from our cottages. The Covered Bridge Wine Trail runs through the same area, pairing wineries with Ashtabula County's historic covered bridges. That makes Saybrook Township a practical base: close enough that no one spends the weekend driving, far enough that your evenings end on a private Lake Erie beach instead of a parking lot.
A whole house beats a block of hotel rooms for a tasting group. Everyone shares one kitchen and one long table, the fire pit is steps away for the after-dinner hour, and the morning starts with coffee on a patio or balcony overlooking the lake. The Pearl Beach Lakehouse sleeps up to 13 with dining for 12 or more; the Lakehurst Bungalow sleeps 10 with dining for 8 to 10. A really big wine weekend can rent both; together they sleep 23.
A Weekend That Works
Day
Tasting rooms in the Grand River Valley, about 10 minutes out. Geneva State Park is about 12 minutes and Geneva-on-the-Lake about 15 if part of the group would rather skip the vineyards.
Dinner
Both kitchens are fully stocked and have dishwashers, so a group dinner with the bottles you brought back is easy. The Lakehouse seats 12 or more, with two extra tables in the back patio room.
Evening
The fire pit, the boardwalk, and the Lake Erie sunset. The private beach is shared with only two other properties, so it stays quiet.
Harvest season in September and October is the valley's busiest stretch, and it falls in our off-season, when the cottages drop to a two-night minimum stay.
